Posting & Rules Links
Links on Reddit: Safe Linking Rules (URL Shorteners, Domains, and Context)
Link posts often get filtered. Here’s how to link safely: what to avoid, and how to add context so it doesn’t look spammy.
TL;DR: Avoid shorteners → add context in plain text → don’t repeat the same domain → follow subreddit link rules.
If you post links early, you’ll get filtered more:
build history first → Start Here.
What to Avoid
- URL shorteners (
bit.ly, etc.) - Posting only a link with zero context
- Repeating the same domain across multiple subs
- Marketing language in title/body
Safer Linking Pattern
- Write a normal text post first (summary).
- Explain what the link contains and why it matters.
- Only then add the link (if allowed).
Checklist: Posting Rules & Flair.
If Your Link Post Gets Removed
- Re-check link rules (some subs ban all external links)
- Try a text post version (no link) and add the resource in comments only if allowed
- Don’t repost repeatedly
Diagnose it here: Post Removed or Invisible? (Fixes). Prevention: Avoid Reddit Filters.
